Here some information
Welcome to Vera Playa, a beautiful coastal resort located in the southeastern province of Almeria, Spain.
The name “Vera Playa” derives from the nearby town of Vera, located approximately 8 km inland. However, the bustling town of Garrucha is the closest to Vera Playa, only 5 km south. Garrucha is a vibrant town offering a wide range of restaurants, shops, and other amenities.
Vera Playa is a relatively new resort that was developed in the 1980s, previously being virtually untouched. Legend has it that Hannibal’s elephants landed here in Roman times.
For shopping, you can visit the nearby Puerto Rey, which includes a shopping area with a supermarket and restaurants. Vera Plaza is another shopping center with a Consum supermarket and many different restaurants. In the old city center of Vera, you’ll find banks, nice boutiques, and even an English supermarket, “Overseas/Iceland,” along with Mercadona and Lidl.
If you’re a golf enthusiast, there are a few golf courses in the area, such as Valle del Este. However, the most famous is the desert course at Desert Springs, designed by famed golfer Peter McEvoy. The course rivals the desert courses in Arizona and California, but watch out for the cacti!
Vera Playa is an excellent destination for active travelers, offering various sports activities such as horseback riding, go-karting, hiking, painting, and drawing. Of course, water activities are also popular, including windsurfing, sailing, jet-skiing, kite surfing, fishing, and diving.
Drive south from Vera Playa to enjoy the unique scenery of the Cabo de Gata Natural Park, the Sierra Alhamilla Mountains, and the Tabernas Desert with the Western movie-themed Mini Hollywood Theme Park. This was the location of movie sets such as the famous Spaghetti Westerns starring Clint Eastwood.
The resort enjoys a perfect Mediterranean climate all year round, similar to the entire Costa Almeria. Temperatures rarely fall below 18ºC in this subtropical environment, rising above 30ºC during the summer months, and cooling down to a pleasant 23ºC-27ºC around mid-September. Winters are mild and mostly dry, although winter evenings can get chilly.
Vera Playa is conveniently located just 8 miles from the Autovia del Mediterraneo (Mediterranean Highway) and easily accessible from the local airports serving the area. While most Spanish visitors come to Vera Playa by car, the nearest large city, Almeria, is only about 90 km or just over an hour’s drive away.
